Stephen > Sitting atop a juniper cedar, this western kingbird was keeping a sharp look-out for unsuspecting insects. Midlothian, Texas, May 2008
Stephen > It was so hot even the birds were panting. :-) Weaver Ranch, Raymondville, Texas, June 2009
Stephen > The great kiskadees are gregarious birds with plenty of character. When I noticed this one land at a water feature on a broiling hot day at the Weaver Ranch, I took advantage of the opportunity to photograph this charismatic bird. In reviewing my images, I thought this captured the character of the bird well with its head and beak held high. He seemed to be admiring his reflection in the water below. Stephen > Tough light, but his western kingbird was giving me a nice perch on thistle. Midlothian, Texas, May 2009
Stephen > The western kingbirds are back for the 2009 summer season. This is the first image of one for this year. It was diving down from this perch grabbing insects. Midlothian, Texas, April 2009
Stephen > These scissor tailed flycatchers just love man made perches, fences, posts or utility lines so I was not surprised to find this flycatcher sitting on this old iron post instead of perching for me on one of the many beautiful flowering weeds or nearby tree branches. Midlothian, Texas, April 2009
