Stephen > This was my first sighting of a lesser goldfinch at the Martin Refuge. It was a perched in the trees just on the perimeter of the photography blind area. This is a 50% crop of the full frame. Martin Refuge, Edinburg, Texas, June 2008
Stephen > I was surprised while at blind #1 at the Martin Refuge when I noticed this Lesser Goldfinch. It did not actually come to the perches at the blind, but stayed on the perimeter. I quickly repositioned my camera and lens to find it in the plants surrounding the blind. I had time for just two images while it was sitting here perched in some dappled light. I had to use a flash to lighten the subject a bit. This is best of the images from this perch. Martin Refuge, Edinburg, Texas, June 2008
Stephen > This American Goldfinch was working its way around this limb. I grabbed this image has it was peaking its head over the branch. Midlothian, Texas, January 2008.
Stephen > This male house finch had just finished battling with three other male house finches, presumably for territory or a female. I am not sure if he won. Midlothian, Texas, April 2008.
Stephen > It's nice when you find multiple species on the same bush or tree. Here I found two savannah sparrows sharing these branches with a lark sparrow and a male house finch. Midlothian, Texas, April 2008.
Stephen > It is that time of the year again when birds fight for territory and mates. This was one of four male house finches disputing territory in my backyard. Midlothian, Texas, March 2008.
Stephen > I am not a big fan of feeder shots, but since these goldfinches are not frequent visitors to my yard, I will take what I can get. This one came visiting for just one day in March of 2008, Midlothian, Texas.
Stephen > Pair of house finches hanging out in my yard. Midlothian, Texas, March 2008
Stephen > Climbing up a limb, this male house finch was looking for a nice spot from which to sing. Midlothian, Texas, April 2008
