Stephen > This male carolina wren was proudly proclaiming its territory or announcing itself to the females in the area. I'm not sure which. Anyhow, this shot shows its beak wide open belting out the tune. It is a tad soft as I was using AV mode set at F8. I was worried about the harsh sunset light on the back of the bird. My camera metered the light and shadows in such a way that it gave me a shutter speed of only 1/80 for this shot so with the movement it came out softer than I would like, but the image is workable. Stephen > This male carolina wren was busy singing loudly making claim to its territory. I was crouched on the ground in the middle of a bunch of dead branches trying to get this shot. Luckily, this wren was so preoccupied with its singing that it pretty much ignored me for the better part of 3 to 4 minutes. Midlothian, Texas, April 2008.
Stephen > I found this carolina wren singing quite strongly this morning. I don't like the stick directly in front of the wren's beak, but this wren moved so quickly that this was the only shot I could get. Midlothian, Texas, April 2007.
