Stephen > Taking a look back, this bald eagle stayed put on this perch for a while before heading out on a late afternoon hunt. The afternoon light was harsh, but I like the way the head is turned and the eye contact. Llano, Texas, December 2007.
Stephen > This is the perch I received within about an hour of arriving in Llano, Texas to photograph these wintering eagles. It turns out that this was about as cooperative as they were going to be this day. The rest of my eight hours were not this good, but I did have a wonderful time conversing with other birders and simply observing these majestic birds. December 2007.
Stephen > Early in the morning, one of the bald eagles came out of the nest and perched about 40 yards away from the fence line. This image and the next five are the sequence of shots that were shot next. December 2007, Llano, Texas.
Stephen > This is another perch of one of the bald eagles that winter near Llano, Texas. As one can see, the light was very harsh and part of the eagle was backlit, but the eagle did give me a somewhat satisfactory profile. December, 2007.

Stephen > This photo from mid afternoon and in harsh lighting shows one of the Llano eagles perching just in front of its nest. From this vantage point it must have been looking at the individuals who were looking at it. Llano, Texas, December 30, 2007.
Stephen > The shadow here could not be in a worse place. Llano, Texas, December 30, 2007.
Stephen > The eagles are still tidying up the nest. You can plainly see how the one bald eagle in view has a hold of a rather large stick with its beak. Llano, Texas, December 30, 2007.
