Birds > Stephen  > Animals > Flycatchers
Flycatchers are some of my favorite birds. They so colorful and do not seem too shy of the camera.

Stephen > I encountered this western kingbird taking a brief rest on the ground in between perches and snagging insects off the ground. Midlothian, Texas, April 2008
Stephen > One of the nice things about my area is that, for a time, both the eastern and western kingbirds are here. I was fortunate to have caught this eastern kingbird perched in a tree as it waited for insects to come out in the open. Midlothian, Texas, April 2008.
Stephen > I noticed this eastern kingbird while in a boat going down the east fork of the San Jacinto River near Huffman, Texas. It was flying along the bank stopping every once and a while to survey the area. June 2008
Stephen > While not as numerous as the western kingbird in my area, there are a good number of eastern kingbirds as well. This was perched on some barbed wire, a very popular perch with many flycatchers, occasionally swooping down to pick up an insect. Near Waxahachie, Texas, May 2008

Stephen > This Eastern Phoebe was perching at dusk while I was driving back to the "Casita" at Los Madrones Ranch near Dripping Springs, Texas. I first spotted it on the fence separating the Los Madrones Ranch from the neighboring ranch. It then flew and perched on this limb in the shade of some big oak trees on the side of the neighboring ranch. It stayed relatively calm so I was able to approach up to the fence, stick my lens through the fence and take this photograph. I used a flash for fill. April 2008.
Stephen > Same eastern phoebe as in the previous picture but with a different turn of the head. Los Madrones Ranch, Dripping Springs, Texas, April 2008.
Stephen > This eastern phoebe has been hanging around my yard quite regularly recently. This one allowed me to get just a little closer than normal so I took this shot of it on some barbed wire fencing. Midlothian, Texas, May 2008
Stephen > Eastern Phoebe from Lake Travis near Austin, Texas. This little bird just flew right up on me as I was trying to photograph a turkey vulture drying its wings. I didn't get the vulture image I wanted but this phoebe posed nicely for me. Lake Travis, near Austin, Texas, June 2007.
