Flycatchers are some of my favorite birds. They so colorful and do not seem too shy of the camera.

Stephen > Late in the day, probably around 6:30pm, I finally was fortunate enough to see a great kiskadee arrive at blind #3 at the Martin Refuge. It drank water, took some seed and gave me a few nice perches. Edinburg, Texas, June 2008

Stephen > The great kiskadees are gregarious birds with plenty of character. When I noticed this one land at a water feature on a broiling hot day at the Weaver Ranch, I took advantage of the opportunity to photograph this charismatic bird. In reviewing my images, I thought this captured the character of the bird well with its head and beak held high. He seemed to be admiring his reflection in the water below. Stephen > Taking a break from the blinds, I walked around the house of John and Audrey Martin, owners of the Martin Refuge, where I ran into to these great kiskadees. One had just finished putting a huge cicada in its mouth for a quick lunch. If you look carefully, you can still see the wings of the cicada and the lump in the kiskadee's throat.
