Birds > Stephen  > Animals > Game Birds and Doves
This is a gallery featuring mostly what one would call game birds. I have quite a few doves in this gallery. Doves tend to be overlooked as they are so common and many times frustrate people as they overwhelm feeders, other birds and are quite messy especially in the city parks. However, if you find them in a more natural environment they are actually quite photogenic.

Stephen > I really like Inca Doves probably because of the plumage which gives the illusion of scales. They are timid and shy, but this decided to check out the surroundings for while perched in this tree toward the back of the Martin Refuge. Martin Refuge, Edinburg, Texas, June 2008
Stephen > Being a bit cautious, this common ground dove approaches a small water area at Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge. It had better be wary too because a roadrunner had just grabbed one of its companions. Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge, near Rio Hondo, Texas, June 2008
Stephen > Just one of the many ground doves at the Martin Refuge in Edinburg, Texas, June 2008.
Stephen > Taking a dip in the cool water...I like the reflection in the water of the ground dove's face. It almost looks sharper than the actual image. Martin Refuge, Edinburg, Texas, June 2008
Stephen > This amiable ground dove gave me a nice perch after picking up some seed from a feeding station. Martin Refuge, Edinburg, Texas, June 2008
Stephen > This Eurasian Collared Dove was one of the few doves not in abundance when I visited the Lower Rio Grande Valley in June 2008. This one was perched just inside the entry to the Martin Refuge in Edinburg, Texas. It appears to have some sort of disease, mites or something that has caused it to lose some feathers around the neck.
