Some of the prettiest birds in my area. The cardinals all have bright, vivid colors and beautiful songs. Many are spring and summer visitors while the cardinals are here in my area all year.
Honestly, I do not remember if this female painted bunting was calling or not. I think its mouth was open just to cool off. I'm not even sure if birds do that. I like the surrounding lily pads. They add color to this rather drab female. Martin Refuge, Edinburg, Texas, June 2008
