These are hummingbirds from primarily my backyard but there are a few from other parts of Texas as well. They are all ruby throated hummingbirds with just a few images of a black-chinned hummingbird and a buff-bellied hummingbird.

Stephen > Of course, the lantana always attracts the hummingbirds. They just love it! Midlothian, Texas, August 2009
Stephen > The abelia and salvia are particularly popular this year. Here you can see either an immature male or adult female sipping nectar from the abelia. Midlothian, Texas, August 2009
Stephen > Sticking its beak into the butterfly bush flower, this ruby throated hummingbird takes a drink of nectar. The hummingbirds, like this one, are building up strength as they prepare to migrate south. Midlothian, Texas, September 2008
Stephen > Positioning itself well, this ruby throated hummingbird is getting at the nectar deep inside this butterfly bush flower. Midlothian, Texas, September 2008
Stephen > Late summer and early fall in my area means hummingbird migration. While I do not have the variety of hummingbirds that some areas have, it is still an exciting time to these little birds maneuver like aerial acrobats obtaining nectar from different flowers. Here I caught this ruby throated hummingbird getting nectar from a butterfly bush. Midlothian, Texas, September 2008
Stephen > This is my very aggressive immature male that is enjoying a bit of nectar from some pink lantana. Midlothian, Texas, August 2009
Stephen > I know this is an odd crop but I had to do it this way to remove some very distracting elements in the photo. Still, though, I like that the ruby throated hummingbird is in focus. It is so difficult for me to get the focus on these fast moving little birds. Midlothian, Texas, August 2009.
Stephen > Despite the weather, it has been a good day for photography in my backyard. I finally was able to get in position to photograph a ruby throated hummingbird sipping nectar from one of my rocket larkspur plants. Midlothian, Texas, May 2009
