NaturePhotographers > Stephen  > Animals > Turtles and tortoises
This is collection of images of the varied turtles and tortoises that I have seen. I never realized the variety of sea turtles that the Gulf of Mexico has. Many thanks go to the good people at Sea Turtle, Inc on South Padre Island, Texas. They continue to educate people about the plight of sea turtles that frequent the waters of the United States and beyond.

Stephen > This Kemp Ridley's sea turtle is newly hatched. It is being released after hatching on South Padre Island under the sueprvision of the work of volunteers from Sea Turtle, Inc. on South Padre Island. South Padre Island, Texas, June 2008
Stephen > After coming out of their eggs, the volunteers of Sea Turtle, Inc., placed these Kemp Ridley's sea turtles as they would have been in their nest. It's basically a big pile with the turtles climbing over each other trying to start their journey to the ocean or, in this case, the Gulf of Mexico. South Padre Island, Texas, June 2008
Stephen > After being placed in what essentially was a large pile, these hours old Kemp Ridley sea turtles begin their lives heading toward the surf and a life in the ocean. Their eggs had been gathered by volunteers from Sea Turtle, Inc, an organization dedicated to helping all sea turtles survive as humans encroach more and more on their traditional nesting areas. South Padre Island, June 2008
