Stephen > This is another view of the nutria I was able to photograph at the Village Creek Drying Beds. It began to swim around at this point, but it still didn't seem over concerned with my presence. Arlington, Texas, November 2008
Stephen > While touring the auto route at Aransas National Wildlife Refuge, I came across this nine-banded armadillo foraging in grass along the side of the road. I stopped my vehicle and got out. To my surprise, the armadillo stayed still long enough for this photo. This was the only one I could get of its face. The rest of the time it kept its face buried in the grass as it moved. Near Austwell, Texas, November 2007
Stephen > While taking the family hiking at the Canyon of the Eagles Park, we saw close to 10 armadillos, the nine banded variety. Most did not allow a close approach, but this one did. This particular one was busy foraging in the tall grasses. Near Burnet, Texas, November 2008
Stephen > While this photo does not have the best lighting conditions, it was the only time I could get any of the armadillos that I saw to somewhat look at the camera. An interesting note is that the nine banded armadillo is Texas' official state small mammal. Canyon of the Eagles Park near Burnet, Texas, November 2008
Stephen > This river otter decided to give me a few good poses. This one was photographed at the Texas State Aquarium in Corpus Christi, Texas, November, 2007.

Stephen > This little female Mexican ground squirrel came so close to me in a blind in search of water that I was almost not able to focus on her. Javelina Ranch, Peñitas, Texas, June 2009
Stephen > As most cats will do from time to time, my cat brought to me this unharmed vole. I took the vole and placed it on a rock. It was too scared to move so I was able to take a few pictures of it and then released it far away from our garden. Midlothian, Texas, September 2008
Stephen > This is a closer image of the vole that my cat brought to me one evening. I took advantage of the catch to take some pictures of an animal that is usually well hidden. Midlothian, Texas, September 2008
Stephen > This is vertical presentation of the vole that my cat had brought to me one evening and, once again, even though this little one is probably the reason some of my plants in my garden inexplicably died, I did not have the heart to do away with him. I set him free in the large pasture behind me. Midlothian, Texas, September 2008
Stephen > While photographing birds at Los Madrones Ranch near Dripping Springs, Texas, this cottontail rabbit decided to come out from the brush and feed on some of the corn and seeds that were spread out for the birds. April 2008
