Birds > Stephen  > Animals > Falcons, Hawks, Kites, Eagles and Vultures
This is simply a collection of different raptors that I have photographed from in and around my local area and the state of Texas. I had never really realized that there were so many different birds of prey in Texas ranging from the small American Kestrel to the Bald Eagle.

Stephen > Checking out the surroundings, this adult crested caracara makes sure that everything is fine before jumping to the ground to feast on some raw chicken that was left to attract these falcons that act more like vultures. Javelina Ranch, Peñitas, Texas, June 2009

Stephen > Adult and Juvenile perched closely together. The whole family, a group of four, had come to this area to dine on the raw chicken left for them at the Javelina Ranch raptor blind. Peñitas Ranch, June 2009
Stephen > After spending the early morning at the raptor blind on the Weaver Ranch, Kent Weaver, the owner of the ranch drove me around his place in his truck where we happened upon this pair of crested caracaras sharing the top of this dead tree. Raymondville, Texas, Weaver Ranch, June 2009
Stephen > I photographed this crested caracara just as it was landing on its favored perch. Over a bit of time at this particular spot at the Javelina Ranch, I noticed that the family of caracaras that I had been photographing preferred a particular perch. Consequently, I focused in on the perch and waited for one to start heading in the direction of the perch. Sure enough, one began its approach directly to the perch. This picture represents one frame from the sequence I captured. Peñitas, Texas, June 2009
Stephen > I caught this adult walking along ground as crested caracara will typically do acting almost vulture-like even though they are falcons. Javelina Ranch, Peñitas, Texas, June 2009
