Birds > Stephen  > Animals > Falcons, Hawks, Kites, Eagles and Vultures
This is simply a collection of different raptors that I have photographed from in and around my local area and the state of Texas. I had never really realized that there were so many different birds of prey in Texas ranging from the small American Kestrel to the Bald Eagle.

Stephen > I have found this hawk and one other that seem to have staked out this area of my hometown. I believe it is a female and male pair. Anyhow, this one, the female I think, was deep in a wooded area but I found a relatively clean view of her for a few frames. Midlothian, Texas, January 2009
Stephen > For the second year in row I have found a red tailed hawk using this dead tree as a perch. I also drive through this area quite often with my camera so you would think they hawks and other birds would get used to me. This is not the case. Within four shutter clicks, it took off. Just outside Midlothian, Texas, January 2009
Stephen > I caught this red tailed hawk overlooking a large field in the last light of day. Midlothian, Texas, March 2009
Stephen > I was birding my local area when, for the second day in a row, I found this red tailed hawk just off the side of the road on the ground. I am used to seeing harriers on the ground but not red tailed hawks unless they have prey. This one may have had prey, but the minute I slowed down in my vehicle it jumped to this fence a few feet away. I stopped thinking it would fly away, but it didn't. There must have been some dead prey on the ground that it did not want to leave. Anyhow, I snapped a few images on the fence and then took off leaving it to its prey. Midlothian, Texas, January 2009
Stephen > Red tailed hawk looking right at me as he noticed my big lens sticking out of my truck. November 2007, MIdlothian, Texas.
Stephen > Still looking to its right. It must have seen a potential lunch. November 2007, Midlothian, Texas
Stephen > Red tailed hawk looking back to its left just before it decides to take off. November 2007, Midlothian, Texas.
Stephen > A vertical crop of this red tailed hawk that afforded me some thirty seconds to take some shots of it. Near Midlothian, Texas, November 2007.
Stephen > It's not too often that a red tailed hawk will pay a visit to my yard but today it did. I still had to use my 500mm + TC to get enough reach. Midlothian, Texas, September 2009
