Juvenile Crested Caracara on its morning perch at the Javelina Ranch, Lower Rio Grande Valley, Peñitas, Texas, June 2009 - Capture The Pixel Stephen Pollard

This is simply a collection of different raptors that I have photographed from in and around my local area and the state of Texas. I had never really realized that there were so many different birds of prey in Texas ranging from the small American Kestrel to the Bald Eagle.

Stephen > The crested caracaras wasted no time in visiting this blind at the Weaver Ranch in the Lower Rio Grande Valley the day I visited. As soon as the ranch owner left me at the blind, a pair appeared to pick up the morsels of meat that the owner had left for them. Raymondville, Texas, June 2009

Stephen > Looking down toward its mate, this crested caracara is either thinking of stealing the meat cubes that were left for them and that its mate now has or it is simply enjoying the beauty of the cone flowers in bloom on the ground. Stephen > At the Javelina Ranch in the Lower Rio Grande Valley I was able to take quite a few pictures of a family of crested caracaras that were feeding at one of the ranch's blinds. Here a juvenile perches as it surveys the area before flying down to the ground to pick up some meat, actually chicken. Peñitas, Texas, June 2009
